Winter Shoe Alternatives
The worst thing about winter, in my mind, is putting on my snow boots. There are few things that I hate more than my snow boots because no matter how cute I try to make my outfit, I’m guaranteed to look like an asshole with those stupid things on my feet.
Regardless, Chicago has been pretty damn lucky with our weather as of late and I have yet to drag those horrid things from the back of my closet. This has also given me an opportunity to wear the shoes that I could only wear sometimes during last winter. If you know anything about me, you know that I love shoes. Here are a few new and old additions that I’ve included from my closet.

Jeffrey Cambell boots
I lusted over these online on Need Supply Co for weeks until I checked the website to recently discover that they were on sale. And only in my size. Of course I purchased them and I’m becoming borderline obsessed with them. I’ve been listening to a lot of Robyn recently and these are incredibly similar to the boots she wears in the Call Your Girlfriend music video. Of course, I can’t dance as well as her, but I’d like to pretend I can.

Rough Justice Heels
Purchased these babies last year when I worked for Akira. I stalked them until one fateful day where my manager put them in the sale section. A coworker and I proceeded to team together and received 75% off of the original price. (The original $350 they cost was NOWEHERE near my normal price range) Funny story about these is the first day I got them, I broke the heel off running down stairs of the CTA. Walked home (in the snow) with one heel bitching to the current guy I was dating about how livid I was. These heels are probably one of the few pairs of heels I can get away with wearing all day/wearing them whilst drinking and etc.

Sam Edelman boots
These guys are my standard everyday boot. I bought these when I worked at Akira during their post Thanksgiving sale days. Although, I have completely worn down the heels on these (I’m terribly hard on shoes) and need to get them fixed so they can return to being my staple shoe.

Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s
If you frequent fashion blogs, which some of you probably do, I’m sure you’ve seen this shoe plastered on every tumblr with the tag of #fashion. I resisted buying this shoe for so long because I saw it in every color on most of my friends/acquaintances. That was until Jeffrey Campbell created a “cat tapestry” print that I fell in love with. A quick text to my old manager revealed that Akira would be getting them in and that I could buy them with my friends and family discount. The rest is history and I probably wear them at least twice a week.

Topshop Unique Heels
I have yet to escape Topshop since I worked there for about three months last fall and it also doesn’t help to have a boyfriend who still works there and who teases me when they have sales… I bought these on New Years Eve for a serious markdown and wore them out that night. Unfortunately, the metallic patent has already started to scuff but that won’t stop me from loving them forever.
Knowing me, I will probably buy many more pairs of shoes to blog about and these are only scratching the surface.
Thanks for listening,
Emily

Nightlife
Being 21 has not only depleted my bank account, but has also let me do some exploring to areas I was never old enough to legally to get into before. Of course, I still end up returning to my old haunts the summer I had a really terrible fake I.D. and one of those bars is AliveOne.

I used to go there every Tuesday of the summer for $2.00 drafts to indulge myself fully. There were many Wednesday 9 am summer classes that were not attended because of this bar. Regardless, I met up with an old Akira coworker on Tuesday and we caught up while listening to their DJ spin funk and old school rap.

Was going to have my friend take a picture of me in this outfit, but I have always felt weird asking people to take pictures of me. Hope this will do anyway, I want to do some posts coming up on the personal style of my friends as well because I have far too many stylish friends that go unnoticed.
Also, I’m not sure if it’s been a long time since I’ve been to this bar or I was never sober enough to notice everyone’s outfit, but definitely spotted some bro in pajama pants playing pool. This bar may be located in Lincoln Park… but please try to appear as if you haven’t just rolled out of bed.

Collaboration with VANGE photo
Last year I met this amazing girl with an even more amazing sense of style on New Years at a friend’s party and exactly one year later we have produced some amazing work together.
It all started probably six months after I met her with a facebook chat message out of nowhere from Casey asking if she could use my shoe collection for a photo shoot she was putting together. I skipped the step of letting her borrow my shoes and offered to style it all together. Here are some shots that Casey took using clothing we bought and pulled from my own personal wardrobe.

New Years Eve
Another amazing night spent with fantastic people to put in the record books. Unfortunately, did not take many pictures this night. There is one, but it appears as if I am 9 months pregnant and smuggling a watermelon under my dress. Regardless, you guys don’t need to see that.
Flashback from last year at the same place where the NYE party was held this year. Hey long hair, long time no see.

Ark & Co. dress purchased from Nasty Gal, Topshop teal fur hat, Jeffrey Campbell heels
Did not actually wear the Jeffery Campbells on New Years as per request from my boyfriend with a height complex. Replaced them with those pewter Topshop heels from the previous post and still worked out splendidly.

Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable New Years! and thanks to the person who walked my intoxicated bum home and refused to let me take off my shoes

New Years Weekend
It’s frightening to think about how far I’ve come in the past year. Year 20 was eventful, dramatic, filled with drunken nights (sometimes mornings), friendships and relationships come and gone, and the overall craziness that epitomizes being an early 20-something.
My parents came downtown to celebrate and were accompanied by my uncle and his girlfriend and my dad’s college friend and his wife. Drank legally with them and spent my first 21 year-old weekend in the city. It’s safe to say that my liver was not happy with me on Sunday.

Kensie dress, Topshop tights, Jeffrey Campbell kitten heels, random gifted studded clutch
Wore this to dinner with my parents and to a bar later for a friend of a friend’s 21st birthday celebration. The dress was found in a Naperville boutique (surprising, I know) and mixed perfectly with the grey/dark purple combo in the Topshop tights. Will probably be outfit repeating this in the future.

360 knit sweater purchased at Nordstrom Rack, Mink Pink velvet skirt purchased from Aritzia, Jeffrey Campbell cat tapestry Litas
Went shopping on Michigan Ave on Saturday in this outfit

And purchased these amazing pewter heels on sale from Topshop on super sale. Can’t beat that.

Recent Outfits

Vintage sweater thrifted from Land of The Lost, Topshop pleated skirt, and Office black patent loafers from Topshop
I wore this to work last week, my boss said I reminded him of a box of crayons.

Recently went into Topshop to tempt myself with their massive sale. Of course the one thing I love is full price. The perfect gradient print with all the colors I’ve been vibe-ing on recently. Will probably be losing sleep over this one until my bank account fairy godmother multiplies my balance.

Back to Blog
Tumblr and I have been together and broken up about 3 or 4 times in the past couple of years. But I’m trying this new thing where I’m making New Years resolutions and I’m going to try and keep them…
Blogs are weird. Fashion blogs are even weirder. You basically just spend time talking about yourself and how cool you look. There are a few blogs that I follow religiously because they aren’t pretentious and repetitive.
And that’s what I’m going to try to achieve with this blog. I want someone on the internet to type what they think instead of what they think a “fashion blogger” should write. Minus the bull shit.
